What's happening with educational institutions?
As of writing this, Donald Trump has signed an executive order with the aim of dismantling the Department of Education, piece by piece. The order calls for Linda McMahon to shrink the size of the Department, effectively weakening it. This is the same strategy that he has been using against other organizations such as USAID, the US Institute of Peace, and the National Park Services.
Other academic organizations have come under attack. Notably, Columbia University has been targeted by the Trump Administration due to its high-profile protests against the current Palestinian genocide. Several students and faculty members have been wrongfully detained and/or deported, including Mahmoud Khalil, Badar Khan Suri, and Dr. Rasha Alawieh.
Additionally, many schools are having their funding cut for various reasons ranging from "antisemitism" to "DEI" policies. This includes Penn State, The University of California, and Columbia University. From what I've heard from multiple professors and researchers, officials at all levels, from deans to professors, are in a sort of limbo due to these policies, afraid to have research funding cut.
This is not normal. This is not normal at all. Regimes target academics and scholars because fascism thrives on a stance of traditionalism, rejecting modernism and post-Enlightenment thinking. Fascism attacks rationality because it goes against fascist practices, and their push of anti-intellectualism is causing us to be seen as "the intruders" wanting to destroy their agenda. What's happening with climate change?
The United States has pulled out of the Paris Climate Agreement, being one of the few nations in the world to not be a part of the treaty. This was advocated for in the Project 2025 Manifesto (page 709). On the same page, it calls for the U.S. to withdraw from the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). It calls for money to be invested into America's non-renewable fuel industries. Seeing as roughly two-thirds of the executive orders signed by Trump until now have been based on Project 2025's Manifesto, it's safe to say that the administration will be doing whatever it can to distance America from peaceful climate change mitigation talks and summitts. TL;DR: "Drill, baby, drill".
